Fridays are for seeing what I’ve learned noticed this week.
Because noticing is important.
(This is a total rip-off of Havi’s Friday Chicken.)
Conflict-y peaceful-y noticings
~ Opening is easier when I’ve slept properly
Sleep debt= bad, early night= good.
~ Closing is any time I’m saying no to what’s happening
…or even when I’m resisting the way I’m dealing with what’s happening (could get into a loop there).
Reminds me of Byron Katie saying that sadness is a tantrum against the world – that it’s just a part of you going NO! This shouldn’t be like THIS!
~ Remembering to open is half of making it work
~ I can open to questions more when I don’t try to be all expert-y
I did a lunchtime talk to a huge bunch of people at HSBC in Hong Kong (about presentations – my other life!).
Someone asked what about virtual presentations and conference calls?
Instead of trying to make it look like that was a big part of my life too, I acknowledged that I didn’t have much experience in that myself, but here were the factors that might help you make intelligent decisions about it.
It seemed to do that paradox thing of building my credibility. Good to re-experience that.
In-other-news noticings
~ My ‘this is not enough/this is not good enough’ voice can be exceedingly loud sometimes.
~ After thinking ‘What would be great is…’, a good question to ask myself is ‘What’s sustainable action in that direction?’
For example, I want to post every day here, plus keep RealSmartNow.net going (or wrap it up nicely), plus set up my TED presentation analysis blog, and post to it once a week with a full-presentation analysis and also a weekly review of all the new TED presentations.
Hyuh.
And then cry into my keyboard after about 9 days.
Hmmm… my current plan is to post a conflict-y resolution-y type thought of some sort here on Monday, then a Friday noticing list.
Tues/Weds/Thurs are up to me, might post, might not. So don’t be all ‘I’m unsubscribing cos you only post twice a week’ or something.
Maybe post a TED analysis once a month. (It’s not enough, it’s not ENOUGH.)
~ I do practice what I preach when I’m presenting
I watched myself do a talk this week, and saw that I was conversational, focused on the needs of the group, made decisions based on the reactions of my listeners rather than on my feelings…
Not such a fraud, evidently… Yay.
~ Chinese morning sword Tai Chai ladies make me want to be old.
Though it looks like I’d have to do it with the guys. Maybe things will have changed by then. (I have conveniently forgotten that I probably won’t be getting old in Hong Kong).
~ I’m much much less tired when I eat more salad and drink less coffee.
Those life lessons keep on coming….
~ I am scarily ok about watching terrible TV if it has pretty boys in it.
Er…Royal Pains, anyone?
~ I still don’t have any self-discipline around American cable TV
…which is why we haven’t had a TV connection for like six years.
Mmm… hotel TV.
It’s totally worth sleeping in a/c so I can have a warm bath.
I love baths. They don’t often happen in equatorial Singapore, funnily enough.
I can totally meditate in a/c.
Thought I couldn’t. Totally can.
When I can eat anything for dinner, it’s either salmon-and-mayo-based sushi, or Ritz cracker sandwiches with cream cheese cubes.
And ginger beer.

That is all.
